Ren is a private, local-first assistant. The Ren iOS app ("the app") is a companion client for a Ren server that you run on your own hardware. We — RIPRODUCTIONS — do not operate a cloud service that your data flows through, and the app does not send your conversations, contacts, or usage to us.
What we collect
Nothing. The app contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not have servers that receive your personal data, and there is no account required to use the app with your own Ren server.
What the app stores on your device
• Your server address — saved in local app settings so the app can reach the Ren server you run.
• Access tokens — a device pairing token (and, if you opt into a hosted plan, a session token) stored in the iOS Keychain, encrypted by the system.
• Your consent choice — whether you have allowed Claude access (see below).
This information stays on your device. Deleting the app removes it.
Your data and Claude
Ren answers you using Anthropic's Claude API. Messages are forwarded to Claude only after you explicitly grant consent on first launch, and only through the Ren server you control — never directly from the app to us. You can turn Claude access off at any time in Settings; with it off, the app does not transmit your messages for AI processing. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by Anthropic's own privacy terms.
Microphone & local network
Voice conversations use the microphone only while you hold the talk button; audio is sent to your Ren server for processing and is not stored or transmitted by us. The app uses the local network permission solely to discover and connect to your Ren server on your own network.
Children
Ren is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
